Yvette Johnson

Yvette was born in San Juan Puerto Rico. While growing up there, she learned to love the
beaches and all the tropical flora and fauna found on the island. Having studied both in
Puerto Rico and in the states she is a blend of cultures and mores.
She has always had a love for the arts, music, dance and painting, and has had some art
classes through the years, but was not able to seriously pursue it while raising four
children. After the children grew up and were on their own she moved to Florida with her
husband and decided to pursue her lifelong love for the arts full time. In Florida Yvette
was in awe of the birds she found here so she started to paint them. Slowly her style has
transitioned into a looser, more colorful on, and perhaps reminiscent of her roots in the
tropics.
Her favorite media are Watercolors and acrylics. Her style is a painterly one,
contemporary impressionism; her colors are vibrant and lively, resonant of her tropical
past. Sometimes her subject may be flowers, animals or people, but her specialty is water
related…ponds, lakes and beaches. In addition to framed work, Yvette has done several
murals in the Polk county area in private homes and public places such as then Polk
County Historical Museum in Bartow, Florida as part of the Children’s Wind displays
depicting fauna and flora typical of central Florida. She also had a one artist show in May
2005, at the museum where one could see how her style has evolved.
Yvette belongs to several local art guilds and galleries such as Ridge Art in Winter haven,
Lakeland Art Guild in Lakeland, Osceola Center for the Arts in St. Cloud, and until
December, 2006 Gallery One Artists in Kissimmee, a co-op gallery. She has shown her
framed work in Lake Wales, Winter Haven, Lakeland, Kissimmee, St. Cloud, Vero Beach,
Winter park, and the Orlando area, Including the Orland Museum of Art’s 1st Thursday
shows. She will also participate in group shows in the area.
Yvette feels that in this time of stress, wars, and turmoil you should be able to enjoy a
painting that lightens the heart and spirit and brings serenity and peace and even a bit of
whimsy to your life.
